Help...

Take a gander at my list. If I sampled a brew with you, that is not on the list, let me know. Matt, Nate: What were the names of those awful Belgian offerings that we tried at iTap? I want them on the list so I never accidentally drink one again...they will be placed in the "no star" category. Matt: What was the O'Fallon coffee or chocolate stout we had? Kevin: What else did we try in Dallas? Another Stone beer besides Ruination? Anyway...here's to beer.

THE LIST

The specific purpose?...to compile a growing list of ales (and an occassional lager) that I have sampled. Why? Just so I can remember names and opinions of the brews that have been filtered by my liver...or however that works. You want to keep a list for yourself? Here is the place to do it. Let me know if you want to add your list.

* = I would sip it again...only if it was free.
** = I would pay to drink this, if it was my best option.
*** = I might give up some cash, more than once, for this one.
**** = If they have it I'm buying it.
***** = I will drive, search, and put it on the credit card if necessary.

SCHLAFLY:
I want to like you more...so I could brag about my city's brewery.
*****Schlafly Tasmanian IPA...citrus, hint of pinneapple, Galaxy hops, awesome beer!
****Schlafly American IPA (not APA)...grapefruit greatness, easily a 4.5 star beer
***Organic IPA
***.5Yakima Wheat Ale...unique hoppy wheat ale that is one of the best beers Schlafly has created
***IPA Export
***Summer Kolsch
***Coffee Stout
***Session IPA
**Dry Hopped APA
**Summer Lager (Helles Style)...good in the summer, duh.
**Oatmeal stout
*Pale ale
*Hefeweizen
*Pilsner
*No. 15
*Scotch ale
*Raspberry Hefeweizen
*Weissbier
*ESB
*Barley Wine
*Octoberfest
*Imperial stout

BOULEVARD:
Kansas City should be proud...Boulevard seldom lets you down with their deliveries. Their Pale Ale is much more interesting than Schlafly. Single Wide and Double Wide are some of the better IPA's I have sampled!
*****Dry Hopped Double Wide!!!!
*****Double Wide IPA (one of the best IPAs!)

****80 Acre Hoppy Wheat Ale...better than Schlafly's Yakima (no shocker)...I really like this beer!
****Grainstorm Black Rye IPA
****Single Wide IPA
***Dark Truth Stout...very strong almost 10% alcohol. Very roasty/smoky. Not a huge flavor at the end. Smell is malty, and you can even smell the alcohol. Wouldn't pay the hefty price for this one again, but wouldn't mind having it on draft or something.
***.5Nut Cracker Ale: My favorite Christmas Ale. Smells kinda sweet, tastes like Single Wide when it first hits your mouth, then ends sweeter than an IPA. Not too sweet, so I like it!
***Pale ale
***Dry Stout
***Bully porter
***Wheat
**Pilsner
**Tank 7...this is a great Belgian beer...but I don't like Belgian's very often, or ever.

SPRINGFIELD:
This is where my interest in micro brews took off. The Pale Ale changed my outlook on beer. No longer was I happy with a brew from the cheapest keg you could buy...really, I guess I never was happy with that...anyway, all beer was held to a higher standard after drinking Springfield Pale Ale on my 21st birthday.
****Pale ale
***Porter
***Kolsch
*Wheat

MOTHER's
****Winter Grind Coffee Stout...distinct coffee flavor, sweetness that compliments.
****Lil' Helper...American IPA. 4 stars, perfect hop combination, creamy malt, 7%, perfect.
****Tow Head Wheat Blonde Ale

MINOCQUA WISC.
The shining star from a trip to northern Wisconsin. The Wild Rice Lager is a unique brew that I wish you could all try, but they don't distribute.
***Porter
***Pale Ale
***Wild Rice Lager
**Red Ale
**Nut Brown
*Wheat

ROCK BOTTOM MILWAUKEE
Microbrewery on the river in Milwaukee, no distribution.
****IPA...they had two other IPAs in bottles...don't know the specific name on this one, but it was citrusy, and it was nearly as good as Hop Slam!
***Love Tractor IPA...citrusy, but not as smooth as the IPA above...it was from a bottle.
***Cinco de Cerveza...I don't know what made this one so good, but it was.
***Porter...good
**Red Ale...ok

LAKEFRONT BREWERY
This brewery tour was the highlight of our trip to Milwaukee...and Milwaukee was cool. All of the beer was good, but nothing amazing. The Cream City was the best I tried.
****Cream City Pale Ale
***Fuel Cafe Coffee Stout
***Wheat Monkey
***Klisch (Pilsner)
***IPA
***Riverwest Stein Beer (all malt Amber)

SQUARE ONE-AUGUSTA BREWING:
The view at Augusta makes all their beer taste better, but the IPA (that smells suspiciously like weed) would fit right in next to the best IPA's I've sipped.
****IPA
***Pale Ale
*Helles

BELLS:
Yeah, the beer is really good...but the price is often an obstacle.
*****Hopslam...hop and citrus salvation with a pine cone floating in the glass...and the honey magically makes this smooth. Please let me drink this in heaven. Jesus, please. 10%
*****Two Hearted!
*****Smitten Golden Rye...I like this as much as Hopslam. Perfect!
****Bells porter...smells like pipe tobacco...vanilla maybe...mixed with coffee and smoke...unique
****Oberon
****Kalamazoo Stout
****Midwestern Pale Ale...smooth, mild mald and hops, gooood.
***Amber Ale...lighter than Fat Tire. Sweet malty taste, but a bite of hops that is unusual in an Amber Ale. Still, it's an Amber Ale, so only 3 stars.
***Third Coast Ale...tastes a lot like Oberon, good cold on a warm day...or cold on a cold day...just drink the beer cold and you'll be happy.
***Pale Ale
**Oarsman Ale...lemony...drink in summer.

GOOSE ISLAND
***Goose Island IPA
***Goose Island Summer Kolsch
**Bourbon Stout
*Honkers Ale
*Goose Island Reserve Matilda

SIERRA NEVADA
*****Torpedo Extra IPA
****Celebration Ale...so much smoother than SN Pale Ale. Slightly sweet in the middle, but starts and ends with hops. Very good!
****Bigfoot Barleywine...serious beer, 9.5%, sweet malt to start, big hop to finish. When Miller Light claims to be less filling, Bigfoot is the opposite...proudly.
****Narwhal Imperial Stout...most imperial stouts are too hard to drink, this one is awesome.  Cocoa and coffee, and just the right amount of hops.  Awesome 10% beer!
***Ruthless Rye IPA...just the right amount of rye makes this one hoppy and drinkable.
***Sierra Nevada pale ale!
***Sierra Nevada porter: kinda a flat soda taste that makes this a mediocre porter. Like the porter style, just not one of the better ones. More of a sweet candy flavor than bitter chocolate and coffee.
***Sierra Nevada stout
**Sierra Nevada anniversary

FLYING DOG
****Tire Bite Golden Ale: 200th beer added to this list. Summer beer, easier to drink than the Doggie Style.
****Road Dog Porter: I drank it before I read the bottle, then I liked it even more.
***Gonzo Imperial Porter
***Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale...what you expect, plus 1...this will be good in the summer when IPA is a little much.
**Double Dog IPA
**Old Scratch Amber Lager

NEW BELGIUM:
AHHH...Fat Tire: This malty friend introduced me to a land of beer that has expanded greatly over the years. However, this land it introduced me to produces much tastier brews. Sorry Fat Tire, you only get two stars.
1554: tastes fantastic on tap at Blueberry Hill.
New Belgium: Thanks for being popular and selling your beer lots of places so lay people can discover the world of American micro-brews. Sorry that almost all of the breweries we find after you are better than you.

****Ranger IPA...this is good
****Rampant Double IPA...smoothest double ever
***Hoptober...also good
***Sunshine
***Springboard
***1554
***Snow Day Winter Ale...a lot of cereal malt flavor, kinda like a mix of a brown and a stout.
**Mighty Arrow Pale Ale
**Blue paddle
**Fat tire
**Skinny dip
**2 Below
*Trippel
*Abbey

OFALLON:
*****Ofallon 5 Day IPA
****Kite Tail Summer Ale...cream ale, tastes kinda like a Lager, but more interesting hop and malt characters.  This influenced me to brew a Cream Ale of my own
***O'Fallon Gold
**O'Fallon Smoke...it's not that bad, sure a little like licking a bbq grill, but actually not too bad
**O'Fallon Hemp Hop Rye...brewed with hemp. It's kinda nutty, kinda tastes like a kolsch when it's really cold, but gets worse as it loses it's chill.

ANDERSON VALLEY:
*****Anderson Valley Hop Ottin'
*****Anderson Valley Porter...see, something besides IPA can get 5 stars. I'm ready for a trip to this brewery.

****Poleeko Gold Pale Ale...not an American Pale Ale. Nice and light, smooth hop flavor. A little grassy, but in a good way. I would drink this every day in the summer!
****Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout
**Anderson Valley Cerveza Crema...spicy, malty, blah

FOUNDERS:
*****Founder's Breakfast Stout...coffee, chocolate, oatmeal, if I could drink the pricey 4 pack I would, but after 3 I'm asleep...or ready to face the day full of breakfast goodness. Great balance of everything that makes a stout. It's a 5 star beer??!!
****Founder's Porter...strong, smooth porter. Maybe Founder's is just good for dark beers?
****Founder's Red's Rye PA...sweet ipa flavor, but not to sugary
****Double Trouble Double IPA...really good, but I had it after Warhammer
****All Day IPA...t ave  hops...ry drinkable
***Founders Centennial IPA
***Founders Dry Hopped Pale Ale...mix a good Kolsch with a decent IPA this is what you get. Still waiting for Founders to impress.
***Founders Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale
**Founders Double Trouble IPA...too sweet

SKA:
*****Ska Brewing Modus Hoperandi IPA: Smells like pines and grapefruit. Good to the last drop.
****SKA Brewing Euphoria Pale Ale: Less citrus and pine than Modus Hoperandi. More caramel malt flavor. But, I guess that is what should be expected from a winter Pale Ale. Real nice just the same!
***Decadent Double IPA...stick with Modus
***SKA Steel Toe Milk Stout
*Ska Brewing ESB...tastes like Old Chub up there. Sweet and full of alcohol...no thanks.

STONE: just started getting this in St. Louis today! (April 23, 2011)
****IPA: Citrusy, very little sweetness, hops are huge, but it ends smooth. Tons of flavor, minus the harsh burning aftertaste of some big ipas.
****Stone Ruination IPA: More burn at the end of hops and alcohol. It's exactly what you would expect if you take the Stone IPA and double it. Good, but the IPA is more drinkable.
****Smoked Porter: I downed my part of this bomber pretty fast. This was a drinkable porter. The flavors were a little muted (smoke, and typical coffee and chocolate) but they were present, and they tasted awesome. To me, Stone continues to impress with smooth ales.
****Arrogant Bastard Ale: At first sip, I was afraid it was going to be a malt bomb like some of those double ipas that use too much to offset the hops. It isn't too sweet though, has a great hop flavor in the middle, then a perfect finish...not too dry, not too sweet, not a hoppy burn. Stone is great!
***1/2 Levitation Ale: Best Amber ale I've ever had, but I don't love Amber ale, so 3 and 1/2 stars is saying this is good! Like it, cause it is hoppy at the beginning and end with a little bit of cereal sweetnes in the middle.
***Pale Ale: Really good pale ale, but wish I had the IPA.

DESCHUTES:
****Inversion IPA
****Hop Henge IPA...
***Mirror Pond Pale Ale
***Black Butte Porter
***Red Chair NWPA: Smooth sweetness at the beginning, hop at the end. Nothing amazing, but tasty.

4 HANDS:
*****Warhammer Double IPA...one of the best beers I have had! Drinkable Double...grapefruit, mango hops...awesome on tap

LAGUNITAS:
*****Lagunitas Sucks...Grapefruit and Pine perfection.  Balanced, but leaning towards hoppy!
****Lagunitas Maximus IPA: A little too sweet...but it goes down easy.
****Hairy Eyeball Old Ale...9.4% beer, tastes of raisins, caramel, but balanced enough to be 4 stars.
***Lucky 13 Mondo Red...tastes like Brick Warmer homebrew, with an alcohol sting at the end from the 8%
***Lagunitas Hop Stoopid IPA: Grapefruity goodness...102 IBU
***1/2 Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale.  American Strong Ale.  Not enough hops ring through the sweet malt.

OTHER AMERICAN BEERS
0 stars Chameleon Hop On Top: tastes like the roots of a plant...doesn't taste like beer.

*Joseph brau winterfest-CA
*Left Hand Snow Bound Winter Ale
*Acme IPA...Blah!
*Miller Chill
*Bud Select
*Michelob Ultra
*-Sam Adams Coastal Wheat...I poured it down the sink. Tasted like lemon Pledge, or at least what I imagine lemon Pledge would taste like.
*Oskar Blues Old Chub Scotch Ale...it will get you drunk if you can choke it down, big alcohol volume, strong taste, maybe I should try it again in the Winter, but I'm not willing to pay what they want for a 6er of cans.
*Boulder Beer Sweaty Betty Wheat...some wheat beer tastes like ale, nice smooth hop flavor for a summer day. This one tastes like a wheat tea...take some wheat, grind it, steep it with some water...gross.
*Sam Adams Chocolate Bock...sweet, drink chocolate syrup instead.
*Breckenridge Christmas Ale...sweet, syrupy, not what I like. I poured it out.
*Lienen.. Sunset Wheat...fruity pebbles
*Breckenridge VanillaPorter...Flat Dr. Pepper

**Miller Light
**Pyramid Thunderhead IPA
**Michelob Golden
**Michelob & light
**Sam Adams Octoberfest
**Trailhead Red
**JW Dundees Pale Ale
**Sam Adams & light
**Trailhead Missouri brown
**Trailhead Old courthouse stout
**Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale
**Magic Hat #9
**Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA
**Southern Tier Imperial Mokah
**Crown Valley Worktruck Wheat(wheats usually get a 1 star, but this one was smooth)
**Mendocino Black Eye Ale (Mix of Black Hawk Stout and Select Ale...just drink the stout)
**Magic Hat Lucky Kat IPA...Tastes more like a lager, or maybe a rye.
**Southern Tier Iniquity Black Ale...hard to drink, syrupy. Might be good on ice cream.
**Great Divide St. Bridget's Porter...too malty, not enough coffee or chocolate flavor.
**Lone Star
**Killian's
**Rogue Brutal Bitter...malty brew, also spicy. Decent ESB
**Oskar Blues Momma's Little Pils...way to malty
**Yuengling
**Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter...weak for a porter, but pretty smooth and easy to drink.
**Moylan's Hopsicle: Destroys palate instantly. Kinda hard to drink.
**Twisted Pine Hoppy Boy...forgettable
**Abita Jackammo IPA...flowery, dry, malty, dissapointing
**O'Dell's Easy Street Wheat: not a great wheat beer
**Tallgrass IPA: It says "Bombastically Hopped. Surprisingly Malty." If it wasn't so malty, I'd like it better.
**Water Street Pale Ale (Milwaukee): watery and bland
**Rogue Chipotle Ale...like drinking Chipotle tea...the only reason it's a two star is that I like Chipotle.
**Abita Christmas Ale...doesn't say if it is brewed with spices, but I don't taste any (which is good in my opinion). This is just a smooth hoppy ale that drinks real easy. Darker in color than a typical IPA. A little bit of a dry aftertaste, but the flavor is great...had this a year later, and it had a nasty sour flavor to it. Maybe a bad batch, but it went from a 4 star to a 2 star really fast.
**Chattanooga Brewing Company Summer Wheat...too much banana flavor from the yeast, but we'll balanced flavors
**Wittekerke Winter White Ale...very floral finish, dry fruit flavor in the middle...grainy pleasant up front

***Edison (nice light beer)
***Salty Dog IPA
***Jumping Cow Amber
***Gila Monster Amber
***Stone mill Pale Ale
***Sam Adams Summer
***Salty Dog Porter
***Fort Collins IPA

***Souther Tier IPA...smells better than it tastes.
***Left Hand Black Jack Porter...too malty and too sweet
***Bud Light Lime...yeah, a 3.
***St. Augustine A1A IPA
***Big Sky IPA...at first it was a little too sweet, but it has a clean aftertaste.
***St. Arnold's Lawnmower...a good summer Kolsch.
***Holy Grail Ale...mellow, decent ale, no lingering aftertaste, a little bland
***Sam Adams Noble Pils: has this on dude's weekend, so it may only be a 2...I was having fun.
***Tahoe Blue Nevada Pale Ale Joseph James Brewing Company...okay
***Hamm's: Basically a light PBR, 3 stars because it is drinkable beer for the right price.
***Stag
***Charleville (St. Genevieve) Hoptimistic IPA: opposite of Hop Rod Rye, sweet taste to start, then the hop invasion at the end. Kinda watery on tap at The Stable, but a good IPA
***Rogue Shakespeare Stout: This smells awesome! Roasted malt, oatmeal...however, it tastes a little harsh. Not enough sweetness, or possibly some hop flavor to mellow out the burned malts and bitter chocolate.
***O'Dell Levity Amber Ale: Light Amber beer that actually has some hop flavor.
***Crown Valley Antique Amber Lager: Tastes like a light Fat Tire. Easier to drink, but the same sweet flavor.
***Cathederal Square Iglesia Agave Ale...Missouri brewery, I would like to try some other beers from there.
***Sam Adams Holiday Porter...kinda tastes like Dr. Pepper. Sweeter than I would like a porter to be, I'm hoping for more chocolate or coffee flavors.
***Big Muddy Pale Ale...grassy, lemony hop flavor. Kinda dry finish, and light flavor for a pale ale.
***Twisted Pine "Hoppy Man" Imperial IPA...malty, 10.5%, smooth for that alcohol content. Not much hop flavor. Good beer, but not amazing.
***Black Toad Dark Ale: Trader Joe's exclusive. A poor man's Left Hand Milk Stout...$6 a 6 pack.
***Mission St. IPA...another Trader Joe's exclusive brewed by Firestone Walker in CA. Not the best IPA you'll ever have, but very drinkable, and cheap!
***AVERY Mephistopheles Stout: 15.92% alcohol! Shockingly smooth. Alcohol burn up front, bittersweet chocolate in the middle, raisin and rum flavor at the end. Main flavor is of a extremely dark chocolate bar. Expensive novelty beer.
***Blue Moon Spring Blonde Wheat Ale
***Big Sky Trout Slayer Wheat
***Big Flats 1901 Lager: Not as good as PBR, but I couldn't give it a 3 star cause it is darn tasty.
***Green Flash IPA...a little too much, and they think they are amazing $$
***Sweetgrass APA
***Left Hand Stranger APA...not great, some marijuana smell and flavor. Not much to get excited about.
***Sprecher Black Bavarian Lager...reminds me of 1554, but a little more smoky/roasty...not bad.
***Widmer Bros. O'Ryely IPA...Rye PA but a little too spicy like a liquid herb garden.
***Crow Peak Porter...sweeter than my Pierce City Porter.  A nice drink, from a can, from the Dakotas
***Victory Yakima Gold...too sweet to be very hoppy...heavy.
***Mother's Spring Farmhouse Ale...great for the style, just don't love the style.
***Sweetwater IPA...too much pineapple flavor...good, but not my taste
***Morning Wood Coffee Amber Ale aged in barrels.  Balanced flavor, no overwhelming alcohol burn or wood barrel flavor.
***Mother's Foggy Notion Barley Wine
***Unita Brewing Co. Tilted Smile Imperial Pilsner...mediocre for an imperial pils
***Urban Chestnut Schnickelfritz...Bavarian Hefe...Belgian flavored yeast, refreshing, nice

****Past Blue Ribbon!
****Mendocino White Hawk IPA
****Mendocino Black Hawk Stout
****Magic Hat Howl
****Left Hand Milk Stout
****Rogue Yellow Snow IPA: Mellow good...a 5 star in a bomber, 4 in a growler (too much floral)
****Left Coast Indica...good balance
****Mad River Steel Head IPA: Strong
****Odell's IPA...used to be 5, but then I tried the beers that follow.
****Odell's 5 Barrel Pale Ale...just enough flavor.
****Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout...maybe the darkest color beer I've seen, not too strong, sweet aftertaste. I could actaully drink a 6 of this...i think.
****Bridgeport IPA...doesn't make me thirsty and has a balanced flavor.
****Big Muddy Brewing Company Kinkaid Wheat: thanks to my father-in-law for this one. Great beer!
****Widmer Hefeweizen...smooth version of a type of beer I don't typically like much.
****Appalachian Brewing Company Water Gap Wheat: the last three 4 star beers have been wheats...either it's just a summer fling, or I am just starting to appreciate them more. This one was a little watery, but it added to the drinkability on a 95 degree SW Missouri day. Not sure how my brother got this one, their website says they only distribute in PA.
****BearRepublic Hop Rod Rye: used to be a 2-3 star beer, then I had it on tap at The Stable. Big hop flavor with a sweet, but not too sweet that it's nasty, aftertaste.
****Mission Street Pale Ale: California beer that I found at Trader Joe's. Thought it would be okay, but it was one of the best American Pales I've tried. It has won some gold medals...so that's cool.
****Left Hand Twin Sister Double IPA: Maybe a little weak for a double, but smooth. On tap at the Stable.
****Boulder Beer Co. Hazed and Infused Dry Hopped Ale...after the first glass I thought, "This is an easy 4 star beer." Then, I realized you could drink a few of them and still not feel overwhelmed by the hops. Best way to describe it is a little watery compared to other hoppy ales, but that bite that sometimes you don't like from the end of an IPA is smooth in this ale...and it inspired Kevin.
****O'Dell's Cut Throat Porter...a little bitter, but smooth enough to enjoy a ton.
****Red Seal Pale Ale...this is a really nice Pale Ale. Good carbonation, awesome mild hop flavor. Great summer beer.
****Stockyard Oatmeal Stout...Trader Joe's exclusive. This tastes like what I remember Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout tasting like. Smoke flavor is the most prominent, but not overpowering. Roasted coffee, and a tiny bit of sweet chocolate. Great stout.
****O'Dell's Mycenary Double IPA: smells like grapefruit, but not a nice drinkable quality.
****O'Dell's St. Lupulin Extra Pale Ale: Good summer hop!
****Charleville Mucho Hoppo
****Stone Self-Righteous...awesome dark ale!!
****Nectar Brown Hemp Ale
****Urban Chestnut Kinsale Stout...crisp and smoky
****Schlafly IBA
****Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA
****Perennial Ales Abraxis...fantastic, high alcohol, chocolate, pepper ale
****Urban Chestnut Harwood Myth English Porter...really good porter
****Charleville Half Wit Wheat (with corriander and orange) this thing comes close to getting a 5 star...and I don't usually care for wheat beers. So easy to drink, smooth and awesome flavor...better than Oberon.
****Big River IPA...kinda dry finish, smooth, good hop flavor up front and at the end. Not citrus...pine flavor, maybe citra hops, but not the usual off flavor or scent from citra...real good!
****Chattanooga Brew Co. Imperial Pilsner...awesome grain flavor, with perfect hop balance.
****Prairie Artisan Ales:  Prairie Noir Imperial Stout aged in oak whiskey barrels.  Vanilla and bourbon extract flavor...wood flavor like red wine.  Smooth!
****1/2 Mother's Winter Grind Coffee Stout.  Not as bitter as some coffee stouts, sweeter like milk stout mixed with coffee stout.
****Urban Chestnut STLIPA...hoppy as expected, but unique flavor from the yeast

*****Nectar Ales IPA: Smooth IPA. Not too bold, but really good hop flavor. Little to no malt flavor, which is just fine with me. I really like this beer!
*****Three Floyds Alpha King
*****Boulder Beer Co. Mojo IPA
*****Oskar Blues Pale Ale: Fantastic...great...awesome
*****St. Arnold's Endeavor Double IPA...real hoppy, great beer!

*****O' Dell' s Mountain Standard double black IPA
*****Crown Valley Gunslinger Double IPA...really hoppy and delicious!
*****Highland Brewing Co. Black Mocha Stout...when something tastes like coffee, chocolate, and ice cream...it's good!
